StudyLab.sg — how we handle personal data, in plain English.
StudyLab.sg is run personally by Larry Hoo as a non-commercial side project, not by a company. He is also the Data Protection Officer for the purposes of Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).
Contact for any privacy question, or to access, correct or delete your data: hello@studylab.sg
If you clear your browser data, your child's progress is erased and we cannot recover it — because we never had a copy.
If a parent chooses to sign up for updates, we store:
That is all. We do not ask for your name, address or phone number, and we never link an email address to any child's activity in the app.
If you use the feedback box, we store what you typed, which page you were on, and (if you were reporting a question) the question itself. We do not store your name, email address or IP address with it, and we do not ask for them — so feedback reaches us anonymously.
We read it to fix mistakes and improve the site. Please don't type personal details into the box — you don't need to, and we'd rather not hold them. If you do include something personal and want it removed, email us and we will delete that message.
If you would like a reply, use the WhatsApp link instead. Messaging us there shares your phone number with us, as any WhatsApp message would; we use it only to answer you.
Only to send occasional updates about StudyLab — new topics, new features, and improvements. We do not send advertising for other companies' products.
Signing up is optional and never required to use StudyLab. Every part of the site works without an account.
By law, a child under 13 cannot give valid consent. Only a parent or legal guardian aged 13 or over should sign up, and by signing up you confirm you are one.
You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email we send, or by emailing us. When you do, we delete your address rather than merely marking it inactive.
To deliver email we use a third-party email service provider, which processes your address solely to send our messages. We do not share personal data with anyone else. If this ever changes, we will update this page and tell you before it takes effect.
The site is served over HTTPS. Sign-up confirmation and unsubscribe links use single-use random tokens rather than passwords, so there is no password to be stolen or reused. Database credentials are kept outside the public website folder. Access is limited to the operator.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause significant harm, or that affects 500 or more people, we will notify the Personal Data Protection Commission and affected individuals as required by law.
You may ask us at any time to tell you what personal data we hold about you and how it has been used, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to hello@studylab.sg and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
If you are not satisfied, you may raise the matter with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Commission at pdpc.gov.sg.
StudyLab does not use advertising or analytics cookies. The app uses your browser's local storage to remember your child's progress and settings on that device. That information stays on the device and is not readable by us.
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date below.
